Los Angeles, CA (May 3, 2012) – Life Moments for Women, a collection of personal turning points from 108 extraordinary women of California, will be unveiled today at the Women's Foundation of California's annual Momentum Awards Celebration. The book is set to raise $1,000,000 for The Women's Foundation of California, and a check for $5,000 will be presented at the event, marking the first donation to the Foundation from pre-sales of the book.
Life Moments for Women is authored by award-winning entrepreneur, philanthropist and women's advocate Patty DeDominic and entrepreneur-educator and Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award recipient, Maureen Ford. The book was conceived and written to promote understanding among diverse cultures, open minds to new possibilities, and create awareness of the powerful roles women play in shaping society.
It is fitting that the book will be launched on May 3 at the Foundation's 2012 Momentum Awards. This annual fundraiser honors extraordinary women who are building momentum for change in their communities. This year's awardees are no exception. Susan Burton, founder of a New Way of Life Re-entry project, helps formerly incarcerated women to successfully re-enter their communities. Kathryn Downing, philanthropist and founder of Galileo Coaching, helps executives and non-profit organizations to exercise transformative leadership and Anna Deavere Smith, award-winning playwright and actor, performs the stories of real people – stories that are often unseen and ignored. The Women's Foundation of California is a publicly supported grant making foundation that invests in women as a key strategy for creating a California where all communities are economically secure and can thrive.
"Life Moments for Women and the Women's Foundation of California share the powerful mission of empowering women from all walks of life," explains DeDominic. "Our intent in compiling these stories from such accomplished women is to awaken, motivate and infuse readers with new ideas about life, leadership, integrity, dignity, and strength. The monies we raise for The Women's Foundation of California to support the work they do will contribute to achieving these goals."
"Life Moments for Women is the culmination of my passion for mentoring," said Ford. "Having over 100 examples of women sharing the crucial turning points that transformed their lives is a beautiful gift that will just keep on giving."
Kathryn Downing, board chair of The Women's Foundation of California and former Publisher, Chief Executive Officer and President of the Los Angeles Times contributes, "This remarkable collection of life-changing moments that define accomplished California women isn't just a book to inspire women—it is an innovative fundraising tool that will create leaders.
